Belgian Open Championship – 13 & 14/09/2014
Jim Hunt has won the OK-Dinghy Belgian Nationals
The field was promising with 2 ex-world champions participating at the OK-Dinghy Belgian Nationals, i.e. Greg Wilcox and Jim Hunt. And the weather forecast good with a moderate breeze between 6 to 10 knots North-East.
The total number of participants was 32 from 6 different countries, namely New Zealand, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. In total 6 races have been sailed on the Galgenweel with wind coming from North-East which was a real challenge as wind shifts and variable strength could make or break one’s race.
Jim Hunt took from the first race the lead and never has given away his overall position and was 2nd for 2 races to Greg Wilcox and the last race to Ralf Mackmann. Top 3 was finally : n° 1 Jim Hunt, n° 2 Greg Wilcox and n° 3 Simon Cowood. First Belgian was Yannick Laumans on position 5, 2nd Ronny Poelman on position 7.
Great on-shore organisation, excellent food and drinks during the evening event and great atmosphere with nice music from Rod Andrew and his fantastic guitar and voice.
And many thanks to the race committee, the volunteers supporting the race and the on-shore activities and the organising club KLYC Antwerp for their excellent support.
Here you will find the photos with thanks to Erwin Van Iseghem.
